Being an abnormally smart and unique child, no one has ever really been able to relate to Halen very well. She often looks at things in a more logical and scientific way. This way of thinking makes it harder for her to understand other people’s feelings and emotions, as well as expressing her own emotions. Because of this she tends to keep her thoughts and emotions to herself which has led to people labelling her as ‘cold and unfeeling’. When word got out that she was a gifted student after taking a special test that showed her to have a genius level IQ, this made things worse for her, and she received even more ridicule and earned the new label of ‘geek’.
But, if you take the time to get past her serious and guarded exterior, she is actually a very loyal and faithful friend. Although she may not come right out and fight for you, she will stand by your side and be there for you when you need her. Although she may look it, she is actually sensitive, and dislikes it when people make fun of her or reject her. She is far from being a robot.
Because of the fact that she does not relate to people to well on an emotional level, she is fascinated by it. It is in her nature to be curious about things she doesn’t understand, and therefore she strives to figure it out, no matter how difficult or strange it is. She has found human emotions and love to be two of the most difficult things for her to figure out. This has pushed her further into things like psychology and the study of human behaviour. Even though she now understands why people are prone to doing certain things, she is struggling to understand why emotions play such a huge part in when certain individuals defy the usual actions followed by specific events. It fascinates her.

full history
Halen’s life prior to arriving at Wickervale wasn’t exactly picture perfect. Far from, actually. Halen’s family had always known Halen was special, even from when she was a baby and her first word, of all things, was ‘dinosaur’. She had always been a very bright and shy girl that kept to herself more rather than socializing with other children her age. Her teachers were always impressed by the work she handed in and the philosophical ideas she came up with.
When Halen reached her first year of high school she had no idea that things were about to get difficult for her. Where there are high school girls, there are high school boys. And where there are high school girls and boys, there lays jealousy and vicious gossip. She was nowhere near invisible to high school boys and was often admired by them. It turned out that a certain group of boys in particular found her attractive, and they just so happened to be the guys that every girl wanted.
This angered the queen bees of the school and Halen soon became the victim of jealousy. Deciding to make Halen suffer social suicide, they spread rumour upon rumour about her, causing people to steer clear of Halen. Eventually the queen bees heard about her being a gifted student, and used that to get everyone to label her as a geek. After they were done with her, no one wanted anything to do with Halen. Not as a friend, a girlfriend, not even as a partner in a school assignment.
This saddened Halen to no end, and her parents took notice to it. Finally managing to get the whole story out of her they decided to enrol her in another school in hopes that she could have a fresh start. They decided to look for schools with high standards in order to help ensure that no bad apples were there that would upset her again. They found Wickervale, and found it to be very difficult to get into. They sent Halen in so they could interview her. Apparently, they were extremely impressed with her IQ level and knowledge of computers and hacking, and almost immediately guaranteed her a spot in the school. Leaving home and arriving at her new school she discovered that it was really a school for spies. It made sense to her, seeing as how they were so ecstatic about her hacking abilities and IQ, and the fact that they made her swear five million times not to tell anyone about the inside of the school. Now, she joins the school in hopes that she will not suffer the same social torture she went through at her old school because of who she is.

Before Halen had left for Wickervale, her mother had reminded her to remember to breathe when she finally entered the school. Halen of course was having trouble with that now that she actually had set eyes on the inside of the school. As she gazed around and studied the people who inhabited the school, she immediately felt intimidated and even a bit frightened. They were all so confident, so talented. Even before having a conversation with one single person she could tell that she would have competition in the classroom. This definitely did not seem like any ordinary high school. It wasn’t just because of the fact that the kids seemed smarter, but there was just something in the air that was strange, though Halen couldn’t quite put her finger on what it was. She was suddenly awakened from her daydreaming when someone accidently bumped her shoulder while trying to shuffle past her body. It wasn’t until then that Halen realized she was standing right in the middle of the damn hallway. Throwing her bag over her shoulder and grabbing the handle on her suitcase, she began to move.
Shaking her head in an attempt to get herself to calm down and focus, she walked through the halls to look for her dorm room. Trying her best to ignore the stares that a few guys gave her she kept telling herself that everything was going to be fine. This time, she was going to steer clear of mean girls, completely. She did not want a replay of what happened at her old school. After walking aimlessly for a few moments she discovered a sign nailed above one of the hallways titled ‘Kerry House’. She figured that this was the place she was looking for. Continuing on through the halls she pulled out a piece of paper from her bag that held her room number. After going up a few flights of stairs she eventually found the room and set her things down. It was a decent room, considering the size.
Plopping down on the bed and letting out a shaky sigh, she grabbed a pamphlet on the bed stand beside her and began to read, hoping it would calm her nerves a bit. Just the opposite happened. Halen’s eyes bulged as she read about what the school really was. Shaking her head in disbelief, Halen chucked the pamphlet onto the floor and stared at it in horror as if it were on fire. Her hunch was right about this not being just any old high school. This was a school for freak’n spies.
